Mostly For Fun

Night out at the movies for font fans!

Date 06 Nov 2007
Details If the words 'kerning' and 'leading' are music to your ears and a 'widow' is not just a poor, unfortunate woman who has lost her husband, this could be right up your street.

For one night only, at the Little Theatre in Bath, there will be a screening of Helvetica, a feature-length documentary by Gary Hustwit about typography, graphic design and global visual culture. It looks at the proliferation of one typeface (which is celebrating its 50th birthday this year) as part of a larger conversation about the way type affects our lives. How did a typeface drawn by a little-known Swiss designer in 1957 become one of the most popular ways for us to communicate our words fifty years later?

Helvetica
Little Theatre, Bath
Tuesday 6th November, 6.40pm

The screening forms part of this year's Bath Film Festival and is sponsored by Spark! just so you don't have to go all the way to London to see it. What nice people we are.
